Asking the coach a question. (you can publish it) how do you improve cardiovascular fitness such as stamina in an anaerobic state? The kind of explosive exercise that make you want to pass out and throw up at the same time. Thanks! (you can reword it too of you want)
I recently took a timed physical fitness test that was designed to work your cardiovascular system hard. It is much like a football (soccer) game where there is a lot of body position changes, jumping, crawling and getting up from a prone position. It was mentally and physically taxing. I need to increase my stamina under anaerobic state as well as cardiovascular fitness faster than running hills (which I already do).
Hi Beckie, have you tried the original Tabata Protocol?
Izumi Tabata is a Japanese scientist and he tested this protocol on Olympic Speedskaters…they were absolutely smoked!
It’s rather flexible, meaning you can utilize all kinds of exercises, as long as they have a high metabolic cost (meaning they must involve many/large muscle groups, best the whole body, like burpees for example).
So burpees work, swimming is good, hill sprints and push sled work are probably some of the best exercises you can use for the Tabata Protocol.
I like to use the prowler (push sled). Simply warm up well, then after a short rest go all out, 110% for 20 seconds, rest for only 10 seconds and repeat for sets. It’s OK to start at 6 sets, then work your way up to 8.
Please let me know how it goes Beckie, and say hello to Kato and Slinky?
