Do we need ‘Smart Fats’? Well let’s see…
But 1st off, what ARE smart fats..?
The body can synthesize most of the fats it needs from the diet. However, two essential fatty acids, linoleic and alpha-linolenic, cannot be synthesized in the body and must be obtained from food. These basic fats, found in plant foods, are used to build specialized fats called omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. Source: Physicians Committee
So ‘Smart Fats’ are essential fats the body cannot create on its own. We need them for normal bodily health and functioning.
We need those fats for health and performance. They are important. Seems we must make sure to include them in our diet. Am I right? Right. Hand me that bottle of olive oil. Or no, wait…
BECAUSE THERE IS ONE CRUCIAL THING THAT THEY DO NOT TELL YOU!!
And that is that yes, we do need these fats, but how much do we need in reality?? Turns out that in truth we need very little of them!!
THAT IS CRUCIAL. The Crux of the matter.
So here we have the classical case of something good, that, as soon as you take in more than you actually need, becomes BAD for you.
Now the BIG question. HOW MUCH do we need then? How little? How do we know? What is too much, what too little? Oh, confusion.
Well I have good news. It’s not so hard. Because Mother nature provides. In her infinite wisdom (?), she has added JUST the right -meaning very small- amount to the natural foods out there.
So if you eat a natural human diet, meaning HCLF: High Carb Low Fat Whole Foods Plant Based (Vegan) diet, you get the exact right amount of smart fats without ever even worrying about it.
Eat corn, and you get that exactly right amount of corn oil. IN the corn. Eat Beans, and yes, they do have fat, and it’s the right amount. Same with rice, grains, etc.
Smart Fats are only ‘Smart’ in their Natural State!
Don’t even think about eating oils, not even coconut or olive oil. These are highly concentrated, unnatural substances which have -at best- druglike effects and -at worst- will poison you.
Don’t believe it? Numerous studies have shown that vegetable oils are HIGHLY carcinogenic (cancer-inducing/creating) and.. guess what they make you fat. (see the video below. Yes it’s an hour and YES it’s worth it! 😉 )

- Smart fats are essential fats, meaning we need to ingest them through our diet
- Stay away from concentrates and isolates, meaning Vegetable Oils. They are toxic!
- We need smart fats, but we need very little of them
- The exact right amount is just the amount found in natural foods, anything more is too much
- Nuts and seeds, avocados and coconuts are not unhealthy, but should be enjoyed in moderation.
